“No inhibitions. No apologies.” That’s the motto of Nicholas Bella.
All of your stories seem to be dark, kinky, and extreme. What is most appealing and most challenging for you about writing them?
I guess the most challenging for me is being as creative as I can with each sex scene so that it doesn’t become boring to read. It helps to have characters that have preferences and know how to draw the readers into their world.
How does writing paranormal BDSM differs from writing real-life BDSM?
I think you can have more fun in a way, because, depending on the supernatural character, they can do things humans can’t. They can endure things humans can’t. What might be going too far for human sexual experience, may be not going far enough for supernatural.
I came across a few discussions on whether dub-con and non-con stories containing BDSM elements should be considered BDSM or a separate genre. What do you think?
I do understand why that would be a topic for discussion because BDSM is considered a sexual adventure that is consensual between Dom and sub. There are safe words involved and one must stop when a safe word is given. There is aftercare, mutual respect. With non-con or dub… there are no safe words and it could be the dominant character taking his pleasure in his “slave”. In most cases, the “slave” enjoys it, or didn’t know he/she would until the dominant character took such privileges. I think it could be a subgenre of BDSM because a lot of the same elements are there.
Is it more difficult to get into the head of a villain or to write from a victim’s point of view?
For me, I enjoy writing from either point of view. Each gives you varying experiences. I don’t really find it difficult.
What is more interesting for you and why?
Again, I like making characters that have shades of gray. They are more interesting than someone who is holier than thou type character. You can give them more depth regardless if they are your villain or hero. Flawed characters are always more fun to write and read about for me. More realistic.
What kinks are your favorite to write and read about?
I’ve pretty much tackled every kink I can get away with. They are all fun to explore through my characters. I really can’t say one is my favorite over the other. There are watersports, bondage, tentacle sex, wax play, etc. The story and characters surrounding the kink always makes it more fun.
Are there any kinks you want to work into your books but haven’t yet?
I’ve pretty much worked in all the kinks that I feel are enticing, forbidden and sexy. My goal is to entertain, get some readers riled up and make sure everyone has a great time reading one of my books.
